    The positive psychology senior seminar put together a wonderful event to raise money for an organization called For Pete’s Sake. For Pete’s Sake is well known for its commitment to helping families affected by cancer to “take a break from cancer” (takeabreakfromcancer.org). They raise money to send families on week-long, all-inclusive and free vacations. On these vacations, families can stop worrying about money, treatments, doctors appointments, and all that cancer entails They are encouraged to make happy memories to hold on to forever.  View

    A Who’s Who of business leaders in the Philadelphia area received recognition for community philanthropy at a special event on June 5th - ELR CEO Philanthropy Awards Breakfast, sponsored by Executive Leaders Radio Program, the #1 rated business news program in the region, also Nationally Syndicated in over 16 states nationwide. The awards were presented to each selected CEO by the non-profit they support. For Pete’s Sake nominated Jim Thomas, President of ASTM International, on behalf of the continued partnership between ASTM International and For Pete’s Sake Cancer Respite Foundation. Jim Thomas and his employees have supported For Pete’s Sake with financial and volunteer support since 2005.   • Oi Yin Gonzalez Speaks at FPS Golf Tournament  | Dec 13

    In 2006, Oi Yin lost her husband, Rafael, to lung cancer. Prior to his passing, the Gonzalez family enjoyed a week long respite at the FPS home in Davenport, Florida. After Rafael's passing, Oi Yin rebuilt her family and was a pillar of strength for their two young children. In 2010, devastation struck again - Oi Yin, herself, was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. FPS is honored to have helped Oi Yin travel with her two children a second time to the FPS respite home. This video captures the meaning of her respite and Rafael's respite. View

    Very Shortly after getting off the airplane in southern California, Marci Schankweiler fought the urge to make a sales pitch to the General Motors promotions manager. "I had to pinch myself to not ask for help," she said. "He was one of the first people I met on my trip."     THE DUEMLERS were small-business owners raising their kids in northern Montgomery County when they were walloped with the news: Dave Duemler had stage IV colon cancer. It was a staggering blow for a 42-year-old previously healthy man. The next nine months were arduous, as Dave underwent chemotherapy. Cancer had unexpectedly reached in and taken an insidious grip over all of their lives and they were powerless to stop it. Dave's wife and two daughters were frantic with worry, as Dave battled nausea, pain and fatigue. There were weekly, two-hour drives to Fox Chase Cancer Center. Those who have been through this kind of thing know that calling it an awful experience is an understatement. View PDF

    Cathy Hughes was devastated. In 2005, the wife and mother of four from Port Richmond was diagnosed with brain cancer. Her doctor at Jefferson University Hospital removed most of the tumor and started her on chemo treatments, and told her she had three to five years left with her family. She was only 32 years old.
